Ken Smith wrote across shipyards, liners, Armstrong and the Stephensons. Frank Manders covered photographs and cinemas. Vanessa Histon mapped hidden walks and the quayside. Alan Morgan took Victorian streets and Jesmond. Jimmy Forsyth photographed Scotswood with one working eye. Max Adams wrote Collingwood. The library holds the picture stock many of these books draw on.

Unsolicited manuscripts are not the usual route. Local history that already lives in the collections stands a better chance than a general novel.
